Every year, the Academy honours litterateurs, scholars in the field of literature, criticism, poetry,
humour & satire, translation, urdu journalism and performing arts such as drama, ghazal singing
etc. of Delhi for their outstanding contribution in the promotion and development of Urdu
language and literature. One award namely Bahadur Shah Zafar Award goes to all India level
and one award namely Pt. Brijmohan Datataria Kaifi Award is presented to the scholars of Delhi
exclusively, both the awards of Rs.2,50,000/- each.

The other six awards of Rs.1,01,000/- each are as under:-

1. AWARD FOR RESEARCH AND CRITICISM
2. AWARD FOR CREATIVE WRITING
3. AWARD FOR URDU POETRY
4. AWARD FOR URDU JOURNALISM
5. AWARD FOR (QAWWALI/ GHAZAL GAYIKI/ DRAMA) PERFORMING ARTS
6. AWARD FOR CHILDREN LITERATURE/URDU TRANSLATION/SCIECE
LITERATURE/HUMOUR & STIRE

In the year 2018 one more All India Award for Promotion of Urdu Language
Contribution for popularizing the Urdu language) of Rs.1,01,000/- was added.
In addition to Award Money, Shield, Certificate and Shawl will also be
given.
