About Urdu Literacy Scheme
The Academy has launched a scheme for eradication of illiteracy under the National Policy on Education in 1988. Every year, the Academy establish about 200 Urdu Literacy Centers in the various parts of Delhi in which about 2500-3000 learners have been enrolled. This is a regular work to promote Urdu education amongst women and low-income group people. The Academy is providing Instructors, Books, Copies, Chalks, Black Boards, Daris, Pencils and Erasers etc. to the centers free of cost.
Literacy programmes for adults and children of 10 years age and above are non-
formal education programmes. These consist of basic literacy, continuing education,
distant education, health education, social welfare, community development, liberal
education, environmental education, etc. Some join the Urdu literacy programmes with the
objectives of learning Urdu language.
Planning ensures that participants who enroll in literacy education programmes get
their desired satisfaction and they stay in the programmes till completion.
The quality of performance of any programme is influenced by the level of funds.
It is important that literacy education programmes are adequately funded. The
availability
of funds needed ensures success of a literacy education programme.
In the present scheme, a learner acquires literacy equivalent to 3 rd basic standard.
After achieving IIIrd basic standard result, it is possible for him to revert to
literacy.
