The Urdu Academy, Delhi was registered under the Society Registration Act on 5 May 1981.With the formation of Urdu Academy, the new prospects for the development of Urdu in this province became clear. Urdu Academy, Delhi tried to act as a model. The scope of the academy is quite wide and varied. Its main objectives are to compile the available historical and documentary material on the literary history of the city of Delhi and its various aspects of cultural and social life in a book form, especially in the national capital.
